The new game will start a new saga and will be developed in Unreal Engine 5.
No release window nor any further details were provided.
On top of that, the studio announced that it’s moving to Unreal Engine 5 as part of the multi-year strategic partnership with Epic Games.
This will mean that Epic will also help with technical development while CD Projekt’s devs will “help tailor the engine for open-world experiences.”
That being said, CD Projekt’s own REDengine is still being used for Cyberpunk 2077’s upcoming expansion.
The press release that accompanied the announcement included a comment by CD Projekt RED CTO Paweł Zawodny:
We also hear from Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney.
Some may ask themselves if this means that the new game will be Epic Game Store exclusive, but CD Projekt confirmed that won’t be the case.
This likely should not surprise, as CD Projekt RED has been historically against this kind of exclusivity deal and has its own PC store with GoG.com.
Lastly, we hear that Gwent game director Jason Slama has been covering the same role for the new Witcher game.
