Did Pochita Die in Chainsaw Man? Explained
As it turns out, Pochita isn’t exactly dead in Chainsaw Man. However, he no longer exists as his own entity either. This is because Pochita gave up his own form in order to possess Denji and become his heart after the Zombie Devil killed them both. As a result, Pochita is now a part of Denji with limited consciousness and free will, only becoming cognizant if Denji is in immediate danger or if Denji is actively looking within himself during a dream. We do get to see this in action a few different times in the series. Denji’s repeated dreams of a door he’s told not to open is a warning from Pochita, who worries about what will happen to Denji should he let past traumas resurface. Pochita also tries to warn Denji when a powerful Fiend approaches him, and sends him the same ominous warning of “Don’t open the door.” As for speaking directly to Denji, this occurs closer to the end of the series. After defeating the primary antagonist of the Public Safety arc, Denji speaks to Pochita again in a dream and learns that Pochita knew the antagonist quite well before encountering Denji. Pochita then tells Denji that he wants Denji and the antagonist to live together as they did, and hopes they’ll do so in order for both of them to live a happier life. It’s definitely a little strange as far as keeping a character in a story goes, but it’s also a welcome means of having Pochita remain in the Chainsaw Man series as a whole. It also serves as a means for Denji not completely losing what is easily the closest thing he had to a family growing up and keeps one of the more positive and pure members of the cast as a regular fixture in its ever-evolving world.
